German Arts & Crafts Wrought-Iron Smoking Stand, 1916
Rare German smoking stand dating from the First World War, executed in hand-hammered wrought iron with brass details.
The tall freestanding structure incorporates several smoking accessories, including an ashtray, a central holder and a compartment for matches. The geometric pierced decoration and visibly hand-worked surface are characteristic of the German Arts & Crafts and Jugendstil tradition.
The large upper bowl is inscribed “Kriegs-Aschenbecher – R.B. 1916”, identifying it as a wartime ashtray and dating the piece to 1916.
A highly decorative and unusual historical object, preserved with its original dark patina, surface wear and traces of age.
